The 3rd Children Summit, a forum for contribution in EDPRS

The 3rd Children Summit, with the theme “Investing in Children through EDPRS”, is in line with the established practice of children’s participation as key ingredient in development process.

Objectives

  1. To give Children and the Government a forum of discussion and exchange and ensure that children’s views and perspectives are taken into account in the EDPRS, currently under preparation.

Children’s Summit expected outcomes

  1. Progresses in the achievement of results since the 2nd Children Summit are reviewed by Children and the Government and key actions to be taken are identified to further strengthen their implementation;
  1. The involvement of children in the EDPRS process so far is assessed by Children and the Government  and key recommendations are agreed on how to foster their participation;
  1. The inclusion of children’s issues in EDPRS sector logframes is reviewed by Children and the Government and a set of key interventions are proposed to impact on child social well-being and poverty reduction;
  1. The Government has a clear understanding of expectations and views of the children of Rwanda and Children have an effective forum to express their concern and perspectives on issues that directly affects them.

The summits have proved to enable parents, community leaders and policy makers to focus on concerns of children in a systematic manner. The main purpose of the 3rd Children’s Summit is to insure that their concerns are addressed in the ongoing EDPRS process. 

Technical Committee

A technical committee chaired by MIGEPROF and co-chaired by UNICEF with the participation of Government Institutions (MINECOFIN, MINEDUC, MINALOC, CNDP, CNLS, National Police, NURC) Civil Society organizations (Boy Scouts, Girls Guides, Editions Bakame, FAWE, Save the  Children UK, Uyisenga n’Manzi) and development partners, designed and supervised all activities pertaining to the organization of the pre-summits
